Abstract | ||
There exist different approaches for categorizing the words of languages. In functional-typological view, the category of words will be defined based on the roles that they are playing in the sentences so a word can not be predefind as a noun, an adjective a verb etc in all situations. When an object modifies another object, the first object may function as an anchor for the second one, helping in better recognition. This relation is called an anchoring relation. On the other hand the modifier may just make the type clear that is called a non-anchoring relation (Croft 2023). This study shows that in Persian, ownership, kinship, body parts and spatial consructions show anchoring relation roles and combination of noun + "-ane" construction may have non-anchoring or typifying function. | ||
