Abstract | ||
Emotions are generally described as personal subjective experiences whose linguistic mediation allows interactions with others. It is evident that gender affects the expression of emotions. This research has two main aims. First, it studies the linguistic devices used for expressing emotions, such as adjectives, verbs and metaphors. Second, it concentrates on the role of gender in the expression of emotions such as joy, sadness, fear and anger in written production. We asked the students to write a paragraph on their happy and sad experiences, as well as on experiences that provoke the emotions of fear and anger that they have experienced in the past or are experiencing now. By analyzing their language productions, it is observed that they express their emotions differently by using different devices. In addition, women express their emotions in more detail by using much more charged emotional language than men, | ||
